Berlin PeeWee I team takes down first place teamThe weekend of January 23rd and 24th Berlin started by traveling to Keene to take on the Cobras. Berlin started the scoring first with an unassisted goal by Justin Vien. The period ended with Berlin in the lead 1-0.
Second period Keene tied the game making it a 1-1 game. Berlin’s offense of Taylor Oakes, Justin Vien, Nick Lowe, Robert Douglass, Evan Valliere and Cameron Cochran (who played in place of Trevor Labrecque out due to sickness) had several scoring opportunities and really worked hard but none managed to get by Keene’s Ryan Strickland.
Third period Keene took the lead taking advantage of a Berlin penalty. Berlin worked hard in the third period unfortunately the locals scored again ending the game 3-1 Keene. Berlin’s defense of Nathan Trull, Jensyn Dandeneau, Meagan Accardi and Kyle Frenette did a great job defending their end to help the Berlin goaltender who ended the game with 21 saves.
The next day Berlin hosted top seeded Nashua Panthers. Berlin got themselves on the board first with a goal from Justin Vien, assisted by Nathan Trull and Jensyn Dandeneau. Period ended 1-0 Berlin.
Early in the second period, Vien increased the lead by one with goal assisted by Trevor Labrecque and Trull. Berlin’s Taylor Oakes was next to score in the contest with Vien and Meagan Accardi earning the assist. Berlin’s Vien hit the back of the net again before the end of the period earning himself a hat trick with a goal assisted by Trull and Kyle Frenette. Second period ended with Berlin in the lead 4-0.
Third period both teams found themselves serving time in the penalty box. Berlin’s Vien took advantage of a Panther penalty scoring again with a goal set up by Labrecque and Accardi. Nashua did score a power play goal before the period ended, giving Berlin the 5-1 win. Berlin goaltender was hot between the pipes with 14 saves.
