BERLIN BANTAMS HIT THE ROADBerlin Sabres Bantams traveled to Nashua to take on the panthers. Their penalty killing abilities were tested in this game as they were whistled for 11 penalties and found themselves shorthanded for over a period of play. Goaltender Shane Mailhot kept Berlin in the game allowing only one goal out of 6 (two five on threes) Nashua powerplays. After a scoreless first period Nashua got on the board when they scored on an odd man rush in the second period. Berlin then tied the game when Mike Lemoine scored assisted by Connor Jewett. Mailhot shut out Nashua in the third period giving Berlin a chance to win but he puck didn’t bounce their way and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
On January 16th Berlin traveled to Exeter to take on the Seacoast Spartans where their third period comeback fell short and they lost 5-4. Berlin took an early lead when Jewett scored on a powerplay assisted by Jeff O’Neil. That lead didn’t last long as the Spartans scored two to take the lead 2-1 after one period. Spartans scored early in the second period before Jewett scored unassisted. Spartans picked up two more goals both shorthanded to give them a 5-2 lead after two periods. Berlin came back in the third when Jewett scored from Trevor Leborgne and Brandon Poulin. Jewett then scored unassisted to bring Berlin within a goal with three minutes left. Mailhot shutout the Spartans in the third giving Berlin a chance to tie. However, the Spartans goaltender blocked all shots sending Berlin home with a loss. Then on 1/17 Berlin took on the undefeated Manchester Flames at the Notre Dame Arena where once again their third period come back fell short and they lost 5-4. After a scoreless first period, Manchester found the back of the net four times in the second giving them a 4-0 lead after two periods. Berlin finally got on the board when Brad Frenette scored on a powerplay with help from Jewett. Flames scored next to go ahead 5-1. Berlin’s comeback began when Jewett scored on a nice feed from Blake and Trevor Leborgne. Chris Hastings scored with assist going to Zach Blanchette and Cody Fauteux. Trevor Leborgne scored to bring Berlin within a goal when his shot from the blue line found the back of the net assisted by Lemoine and O’Neil. It was too little too late as Berlin lost 5-4.
