Berlin Peewee Team starts New Year with two ties and a loss

Berlin Peewee I team started off the New Year hosting the Lakes Region Lakers on January 2, 2010. Lakers started the scoring first in this contest. They out shot the locals in the first period, sneaking two by Berlin’s Netminder Matthew Morin, giving them selves the 2-0 lead ending the period. Morin blocked the other 10 shots. 

First minute to play in the second period Berlin’s Nick Lowe got Berlin their first goal with Robert Douglass earning the assist. Taking advantage of a power play, Trevor Labrecque tied it up with a goal set up from Meagan Accardi and Justin Vien. Morin had another 5 saves during the period.

Third period both teams worked hard at both ends of the ice, but the period ended scoreless and Morin stopped all 7 shots made by the Lakers. Game ended tied 2-2.

Later that day, Berlin hosted Keene. Berlin scored first only 50 seconds into the first period with a goal from Taylor Oakes assisted by line mates Vien and Labrecque. Keene answered back shortly after tying the game before the first period ended. The rest of the game was evenly matched play, both teams having great defensive play and several scoring opportunities but none capitalized. The game ended 1-1 and Berlin’s Matthew Morin had 14 saves.

On Sunday Berlin traveled to Rochester to take on the Blackhawks. Rochester took the lead right off in the first period. They scored three goals to Berlin’s one. Berlin’s goal came from Taylor Oakes with Nathan Trull and Kyle Frenette assisting. First period Berlin was behind 3-1, Goaltender Matthew Morin had 2 saves.

             Second period, Berlin’s Robert Douglass gave the Sabres their second and final goal of the game assisted by Evan Valliere and Jensyn Dandeneau. Morin blocked another 8 shots during the period. The third period Rochester scored 3 more one being an empty net goal, to end the game 6-2, Morin had another 5 saves.
